That crazy period of the year

I have arrived safe in Europe (kinda)… excluding a stomach bug that was not much fun on Xmas eve, but still managed an enjoyable christmas day after meeting up with Jamie. First day on snow here is tomorrow, however there is not so much snow around…..

The races in Colorado…

Following on from the Loveland Nor-Ams, I raced a UNI GS and placed 11th in a bizarre race, scoring a 25 point result. My skiing was strong, I just couldn’t manage to find the switch to create an ‘awesome day’!

Next up was the Nor-Am Speed series at Copper. An arctic cold snap ripped through and it was very very cold… -30 and face mask wearing cold. The first DH training run I skied really well finishing 15th. In the race DH’s I scored mid 40’s in all 3 races and placed just outside the top 30. I couldn’t be disappointed with the results but I felt there was a lot more time in there, had I not made mistakes. Next time!

In the first Super-G I did not finish and was frustrated after being placed 2nd after the 2nd time intermediate. The second day I skied really poorly to finish 37th. The Copper series was still definitely a positive series for me but just too much ‘woulda, shoulda, coulda’s’

The Vail GS hill was a really fun and challenging hill. It had everything from flat to steep to side hill. I had trained well on it a few weeks prior and was really excited to race it. The first day I came down feeling like a hero and expecting a fast time but just gave too much time away by skiing conservatively. The 2nd day I skied better and skied into 19th after the first run ending up a slightly disappointing 22nd overall.

We then packed up our things and headed to Steamboat Springs for a slalom night race. It is always a fun time racing under lights and the view from the start gate was pretty epic looking out over the lit up town with snow falling. I skied ok and had fun but was not overly happy with my performance.

It has been great to recharge the batteries and we have just over a week to do a bit of training before our next GS race in Brigels, Switzerland!

I hope everybody has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Will keep you posted!
