World Juniors

The NH season is over. It is always good to be back home enjoying my time off snow, enjoying some end of summer activities and getting back into the study and lectures at Canterbury.

World Juniors was an ‘ok’ series for me. I was pretty happy with my 26th in Downhill and feel I am making major steps in this reasonably new discipline for me. I really enjoy working on the accuracy of the race line but the big challenge is finding and getting the training. I admit I was disappointed with my skiing in the GS. It was certainly a tight set but there are no excuses. To achieve my personal goal of 2x top 15 results was a tough ask but I didn’t put down what I needed and what I feel I really could’ve achieved. However I feel, finishing wanting more is a good thing!!

My days of being a Junior are now over which is a bit sad. World Juniors is a great event and an awesome experience racing with similar aged athletes from all over the world. In Jasna, Slovakia, it was well set up with accommodation, dining and tuning for all athletes in one big venue.

I would sum up my season in one word as being ‘decent’. I lowered my points in GS, DH and Slalom which I am proud of. But I can’t help feeling I should’ve performed better at times and it could’ve been a ‘great’ season.

Thank you to my support crew this season. Mum and Dad, friends, family, coaches, sponsors. It is great to have such a strong team backing me up. All the emails of encouragement, the facebook messages, the positive supportive phone calls, it helps heaps.

From my equipment Team at Stöckli, Grant and Adi, Shred and Slytech, Lange, Dave Boyd and the team at Formthotics, Komperdell, Joshua and  Les Mills Christchurch, Geoff and Rebecca with Toko, Snowvision and Crombie Lockwood, thanks all for your continued invaluable support. To the coaching staff, Nils, Brad, Chris and Joey, I appreciate all your efforts. The time on and off the hill and all the organisation involved.

I was happy to get home and see friends and family but part of me was pulled by the determination to further succeed or in simple terms- I want to keep getting better!

I am unsure of my plans for the Southern Hemisphere yet, but things will start slotting into place as I build towards the next season!
